My Son.
My son was born yesterday.
My son.
There was a beautiful heartbreaking moment when my wife tried to feed him for the first time, and it became painfully evident that neither of them was sure how it was supposed to work. She kept apologizing to him, saying that she was sorry that his mother didn't know what to do. Eventually a nurse came in and helped. Later on she tried by herself again, and again it was awkward. Again she apologized to him. When we finally swaddled him and put him down to sleep, I told her that he would never find another mother as good as her.
A wonderous thing it is to see a wife turn mother... I mean we had both imagined it happening... but.. well it's like when you're young and you try to visualize yourself married. But the problem is the most important element - who you are going to be married to - is nothing but a nameless figment of your imagination. Until you meet that person, your dreams are as solid as a fake prop on a theater stage.
Yesterday, I met my son.
...my son.
